About us

SHIPHAMELE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Background Of The School

The school started January 1983 with one teacher: Ms Siwela IB, formerly known as Mrs Moyana, teaching Sub A and B. There was no classroom. Teaching and learning took place under the tree without furniture. The chair for the teacher was donated by the community leader without a table. Later after June same year, the former Gazankulu government started building 8 classrooms. First enrolment was 163 learners. After June, 2 more teachers employed, Mrs Khosa TJ and the late Ms Ngobeni ML.

Our Schools Name
Shiphamele Primary School

Meaning of the name
Shi – (in Xitsonga, its supposed to be “xi” which is the prefix for “Xihlangi”, the child) meaning the child.   Phamele – (from the word. “phamela”) meaning to dish out.

Which means at Shiphamele primary we are dishing out education (the precious stone) to the child.
